Iconic film: The Wizard of Oz (1939)

We start the week  with a section that I have left behind for a while but I personally love: the iconic film posts.

As you may know this week the new version of “The Wizard of Oz” (Oz: The great and powerful starred by James Franco, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz) will be on cinemas. Today I’m going to talk you about the 1939 film, which currently is considered a cult film.

Directed by Victor Fleming and starred by Judy Garland (Liza Minelli’s mother), Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr y Billie Burke, it tells the story of Dorothy a girl form Kansas whose house is transported to the magic and colourful land of Oz due to a hurricane. In order to come back home, Dorothy will count with the help of Glinda (the Good Witch from the North), a scarecrow (Ray Bolger), a tin man (Jack Haley) and a coward lion (Bert Lahr). Together they’ll have to follow the yellow brick road to arrive to the Emerald City and ask the Wizard of Oz for their wishes, while they live countless adventures.

The designer of the wonderful wardrobe was Adrian, who despite his amazing designs during his working life never won the Oscar. (By the way, as you can see it was him the first who thought about glitter shoes!!)

The film, beyond being a children story, is interesting from the psychological point of view due to the message the main roles exude: the real power is within us and only our fears are our worst enemy. If we really want we’re able to do anything!!

A very inspiring message for the difficult moments we’re living… right??
Happy beginning of the week!!

Do you think Miuccia Prada, Jimmy Choo or Louboutin were the first who thought about glitter shoes?? Well... nop!! ;-)
Follow the yellow brick road to see the Wizard of Oz!!

The Wizard of Oz looks frightening!!
....But he is not!!

At the end... it has all been a dream??

Here you have a sneak preview of the new version... It looks promising!!
