Iconic film: Marie Antoinette (2006)

This week we begin with an historical drama recommendation: Marie Antoniette (2006) by Sofia Coppola. Starred by Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman, the film is a free adaptation of the biography Marie Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser.

It tells the story of the young Austrian aristocrat who arrives to Versailles at the age of 14 to marry Louis XVI the Dauphin of France. Like in many Coppola’s films, the images and the music play a basic role. Therefore in some long scenes the dialogue becomes unnecessary.

The amazing wardrobe was in charge of Milena Canonero who won an Oscar for it (and added it to her two previous ones for Barry Lindon 1975 and Chariots of Fire 1981). Special mention has to be made for Manolo Blahnik the designer of all of the shoes. The artistic direction was impeccable thanks to Pierre Duboisberranger and Anne Seibel who for the first time in History were allowed to film inside the Palais de Versailles. The result is a jewel not to be missed.

Have you seen it?
I remember you that you can still vote for the H&M and Harpers Bazaar contest here
Thanks for your help and happy Monday!!
