I perfectly remember the first time I saw Moulin Rouge in the cinema. I was absolutely mesmerized when I left. In fact I believe that I was in shock for three days. Next week I went to see it again. Up-to-date I’ve never done that with any other film…
Directed by Baz Luhrmann in 2001 and starred by Nicole Kidman (Satine) , Ewan McGregor (Christian), John Leguizamo (Toulouse Lautrec), Jim Broadbent (Harold) and Richard Roxburgh (the Duke) it tells the tragic love story between Christian and Satine in Paris in 1900.
Christian is a bohemian and romantic writer who arrives to Paris to write and find true love. One night he goes out with Toulouse Lautrec and his friends and they visit the Moulin Rouge where Satine - the most beautiful and desired courtesan of Paris - performs every night. But Satine would struggle between the love of Christian (true and pure) and the love of the Duke who can offer her everything she’s always wanted: being a star.
The spectacular wardrobe and artistic direction was the work of Catherine Martin (Luhrmann’s wife) and Angus Strathie. Their impressive work was worth the Oscar.
Although many thought the film was old fashioned or a copy of Romeo and Juliet, in my modest opinion Luhrmann created a breathtaking and captivating musical, with a marvelous and surprising soundtrack, accompanied by an amazing display of spectacular images.
My favorite sentence? “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return”
Ladies you simply can’t miss it!!
Did you know that the Green Fairy was Kylie Minogue?? |
In this film Nicole Kidman looked gorgeus. I think in no other film she appears so beautiful... (It is really a pity what Botox has made with her face...) |
The magical end of the "Elephant Love Medley" |
The passionate tango of "Roxanne" |
This astonishing necklace was specially made for the movie by Australian designer Stefano Canturi. It had 1,308 diamonds totaling 134 carats! It took more than 12 weeks to be made. |
Breathtaking isn't it? |
Come what may... |
