My trip to London (II): Little Venice & The National Gallery

Nuestro plan para el sábado fue visitar Little Venice, una zona un tanto desconocida de Londres. Little Venice es el nombre que recibe un pequeño barrio situado en el centro de Maida Vale (cerca de Paddington)  y que se caracteriza por tener un canal en el que circulan barquitos y casas barco. ¡Hay mucha gente que vive allí por increíble que parezca! La idea era hacer un recorrido a pie y llegar a Camden pero el frío se hizo tan insoportable que decidimos irnos a la National Gallery .

Por si no lo sabéis  la entrada es completamente gratuita y si sois mínimamente sensibles al arte (que no expert@s) es una visita ineludible. Eso sí , por favor intentar evitar un fin de semana porque os dará la sensación de estar en el mercado de vuestro barrio en lugar de en un museo…  

Tras reponer fuerzas en un restaurante cercano me fui a visitar con mi madre la exposición de Marilyn en la Getty Images Gallery. Fotos inéditas y trajes personales de la actriz componen esta pequeña joya de exposición (¡que además es también gratis!)

Y después, nos fuimos a pasear por Picadilly Circus y visitamos los almacenes Fortnum & Mason, otro de los sitios que no os debéis perder si estáis en Londres.  

Our plan for Saturday was to visit Little Venice,  a quite unknown London area. Little Venice is the name of a small neighborhood located in the middle of Maida Vale (near Paddington) with a canal where little boats sail and people live in boat houses. It’s amazing the amount of people that live there!! The idea was to wandering around and arrive to Camden but the weather became so unbearable that we decided to visit the National Gallery.

In case you don’t know the entrance is free and if you’re sensible towards art in general (I’m not talking about being an expert) the visit is a must. However, try to avoid the weekend if you don’t want to have the feeling that you’re in market instead of a museum…

After "fueling up" with some typical English food, my mum and I make our way to the Marilyn exhibition held in Getty Images Gallery . Unknown images and personal clothes owned by the actress make up this little jewel (that is also for free!!)

And after that, it was time to walk around Picadilly Circus and visit Fortnum & Mason another of the places you must visit if you're in London!!

Sausages in gravvy sauce and fried potatoes... Quite British, right? (Though not as much as fish and chips I know...)
