Good morning ladies! We start the week talking about “Girl with a pearl
earring” (2003) a film based on the historic novel (but not true) written by Tracy Chevalier.
Starred by Colin Firth, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Wilkinson it tells the
story of Griet (Johansson) a young girl who arrives to Vermeer’s (Firth) house to
become a maid. But it turns out that Griet will become much more than a maid as Vermeer’s
finds in her the perfect model and muse for his works. Obviously, that fact
provokes the jealousy and rage of his wife.
An artwork brought to cinema and transformed into another artwork. That’s
what director Peter Webber achieved. He wanted to recreate Vermeer’s
universe so closely that sometimes the spectator has the feeling of being transported inside one of his paintings.
Here you have five reasons not to miss it:
- Its perfect photography
- Its actors
- The meticulousness of its wardrobe (designed by Dien van Straalen)
- The light of its scenes (which tries to reflect Vermeer’s World)
- Its perfect setting
Have you seen it?
Happy beginning of the week!!
