Si
duda una de las obras maestras John Ford. Mogambo (1953) es una película
en la que la naturaleza salvaje se mezcla con la “belleza salvaje” de sus dos
protagonistas, consiguiendo una inusual atmósfera de sensualidad y pasión.
Vic Marswell (Clark
Gable) es un cazador que organiza safaris. En su pequeño hotel se encuentra
hace algún tiempo la atractiva Eloise Kelly (Ava Gardner), con la que Marswell ha iniciado una relación. Pero la
llegada de los Nordley, un matrimonio estadounidense que ha contratado los
servicios de Marswell para filmar gorilas en libertad, desatará la tormenta. Linda
Nordley (Grace Kelly) queda
impresionada por el maduro cazador y se enamora perdidamente de él. A su vez,
Marswell se siente halagado y se cree también enamorado de ella. Eloise Kelly
contempla esta situación con celos, dolor e incredulidad…
La película es en realidad un remake de Red
Dust (1932) con el propio Gable en el papel principal pero ambientada
en la India.
Tanto Gardner como Kelly estuvieron nominadas al
Oscar a mejor actriz principal y mejor actriz de reparto respectivamente, aunque
sólo Kelly ganó la estatuilla.
Mogambo supuso tal escándalo en su época por el tema que
trataba (el adulterio) que la censura española cambio los diálogos haciendo que
el matrimonio fueran hermanos. ¡¡Así que convirtieron el escándalo en incesto!!
Increíble pero cierto…

achieving an unusual passionate and sensual atmosphere.
Vic
Marswell (Clark Gable) is a hunter
who organizes safaris. In his small hotel stays the attractive Eloise Kelly (Ava Gardner) with whom he has an affair.
But the arrival of the Nordley, an American couple who wants to hire him to
record the life of the gorillas, would unleash the storm. Linda Nordley (Grace Kelly) falls crazy in love with the

The
film is really a remake of Red Dust (1932) with Gable also playing the main
role but with the background of the exotic India.
Both
Gardner and Kelly were nominated as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively
but only Kelly won the Oscar.
Mogambo was such a scandal at that time (the adultery was evident)
that the Spanish censors changed the dialogues making the married couple a couple
of brothers. The scandal was converted into incest!!! Unbelievable but true…
