Iconic film: Gone with the wind (1939)

¡¡Hola chic@s!!

Hello guys!!

After three days being switch off (sorry, I needed it!!) I begin the week full of energy and with a post dedicated to the probably most iconic film ever: Gone with the Wind (1939).

As amazing as it seems, it was directed by 5 different professionals: Reeves Eason, Sam Wood, William Cameron Menzies, George Cukor and Víctor FlemingVictor Fleming. The main stars were Vivien Leigh (Scarlett O’Hara), Clark Gable (Reth Butler), Leslie HowardOlivia de Havilland (Melanie Hamilton). However there were also excellent supporting role actors worth to be mentioned like Hattie McDaniel (Mami) who was the first balck actress to won an Oscar. eventhough in the credits only appeared (Ashley Wilkes) and

I’m sure you know the plot by heart.  Atlanta (USA) half of the XIX century. Scarlett O’Hara a spoiled young woman who possesses a very strong personality is crazy inlove with his neighbour Ashley Wilkes. But Ashley prefers to marry his sweet cousin Melania so Scarlett in spite marries the only man who would ever really love her: Rhett Butler. With the American Civil War as a backdrop, the films tells the story of Scarlett, her continuous fight to live and achieve everything she wants, thanks to her strong personality, her courage, ambition and great self-steem.

The wardrobe was designed by Walter Plunkett who didn’t won the Oscar for it. However it was one of his most remembered works (along with Singing in the rain). Unforgettable are some of the dresses Vivien wore like the velvet green one (that she made from some old curtains) or the red one she’s wearing when attending Melanie’s birthday after being caught flirting with Ashley.

Some curiosities you maybe don’t know:

- It won 10 Oscar and for many years it was the most expensive film ever filmed.
- It has been one of the highest grossing film ever concurring with films like The Sound of Music, Titanic or Avatar
- The casting for the main feminine role lasted two years and included more than 1.400 candidates interviewed!!
- Atlanta’s fire scene was one of the first to be recorded and they burnt for real some of the King Kong film sets
- Even though it was said that the two main stars (Leigh and Gable) couldn’t stand each other, it was not true. They show mutual respect as they were excellent professionals.
- The producer blackmailed the censors so as to maintain "damn" in  Gable's last sentence

So if you haven’t watched it yet, you must do it.  And if you have already done it, enjoy it again until you get bored!!
