Look of the day: Icy Saturday

Este fin de semana las temperaturas en Barcelona (así como en el resto de España) han sido gélidas. Eso, sumado al hecho de que soplaba mucho viento, hacía que la sensación térmica fuera aún más baja. Lo cierto es que con ese  panorama cuesta arrancar y arreglarse para hacerse fotos. Pero eso es lo que hace una buena bloggera ¿no? Contra viento y marea, llueva o nieve, haga frío o calor, ahí está… ¡¡siempre divina!!! Jajajajaja...  

Fue el sábado al mediodía cuando, abrigada hasta las orejas (y nunca mejor dicho), aproveché para hacerme estas fotos. Lo cierto es que cuando vas bien abrigada y con tejidos de  calidad (como la lana, el cashmere o la piel) no pasas frío. Por eso yo SIEMPRE miro la etiqueta de la composición para saber lo que compro realmente. Es un gesto que se ha convertido en algo natural y lo hago ya de forma inconsciente. Mucha gente me mira raro pero me da igual. ¡¡Os aseguro que de esta manera me he evitado muchas sorpresas desagradables!!

This past weekend temperatures have been icy in Barcelona (the same as in the rest of Spain) something to what we are not really used to. In addition, a freezing wind blew so the wind chill factor was even lower. With a weather like this I’m sure you understand how hard is to dress up and go out to take pictures. But that’s what a good blogger do, right? Come hell or high water, whether rain or snow, hot or cold, she’s always there… simply divine!!! LOL  

So last Saturday, wrapped up warm, I took advantage of the midday hours (when the sun was shining) and went out to take some pictures. The truth is that when you keep yourself wrap up warm and wear good materials (wool, cashmere or leather) you don’t have cold. For that reason before I buy something I ALWAYS read the label to know what I’m really buying. It is something that has become natural for me. Some people look at me with funny faces but I don’t care at all. Believe me: I have avoided many unpleasant surprises doing it!!

Iconic film: Victor Victoria (1982)

Sin duda uno de los musicales más divertidos que he visto y de los que con más gracia trata el tema de los dragqueens.

Dirigida en 1982 por Blake Edwards y protagonizada por Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, James Garner y Lesley Ann Warren (divertidísima en su papel de rubia histriónica), Víctor o Victoria cuenta la historia de Victoria (Julie Andrews) un cantante de ópera que no consigue encontrar trabajo en el París de 1934 y vive sumida en la pobreza. Con la ayuda de Carroll Todd (Robert Preston) un cantante de cabaret gay, Victoria se disfraza de hombre y se hace pasar un transformista (“una mujer que finge ser un hombre que, a su vez, finge ser una mujer”). El éxito es abrumador y París cae rendido a sus pies… incluso un gánster multimillonario (James Garner) que no “acaba de ver claro” que sea un hombre de verdad…

Números musicales inolvidables (como “Le Jazz hot” o “Chicago Illinois”, de los que os dejo el video al final del post), música de Henry Mancini, un vestuario espectacular creado por Patricia Norris, sus 7 nominaciones a los Oscar y un reparto de secundarios de lujo (Robert Preston y Lesley Ann Warren estuvieron nominados al Oscar) hacen de esta película una de esas joyas que no os podéis perder.

Without any doubts one of the funniest musicals I’ve ever seen that also offers an amusing perspective of the drag queen world.

 

Directed in 1982 by Blake Edwards and starred by Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, James Garner and Lesley Ann Warren (hilarious in her role of a screechy-voiced blondie), Victor Victoria tells the history of Victoria (Julie Andrews) a poverty-stricken soprano trying to find work in Paris 1934. Thanks to the help of Carroll Todd (Robert Preston) a gay cabaret singer, Victoria turns into a female impersonator (“a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman”). The success is clamorous and all Paris fall at her feet… including a millionaire gangster (James Garner) who is not very sure about the fact that he’s really a man…

Unforgettable musical numbers (like “Le Jazz Hot” or “Chicago Illionois” whose videos  can  be  watched  at  the  end  of  the  post),  Henry  Mancini’s  music,

an spectacular wardrobe  designed by Patricia Norris, 7 Oscar awards nominations and an amazing cast of supporting actors (Robert Preston and Lesley Ann Warren were both nominated) make of that film another jewel not to be missed.
